304 Grade Stainless Steel Screws are from the austenitic class of stainless steels. The primary alloyants of these fasteners include 8% chromium and 8% nickel. Apart from these alloying elements, the 304 Stainless Steel Wood Screws also contain a maximum of 0.08% carbon. Besides being one of the most commonly used fasteners, the SS 304 Csk Screw is very versatile. Since 304 grade stainless steel has good formable and weldable characteristics, it is easy to manufacture a many types of fasteners with them.

Although 304 Stainless Steel Sheet Metal Screws are considered to be marine grade and they can be used in marine or sea water applications(especially in chlorine containing environments), they are considered to be less desirable in comparison to stainless steel grade 316 due to the less content of molybdenum in the grade 304 Stainless Steel Deck Screws.
One of the major problems with the threaded fasteners is the issue of galling. Generally, the chromium content in the 304 Stainless Steel Socket Head Cap Screws aid the formation of a passivated oxide layer. This passivated oxide layer protects the 304 Stainless Steel Tek Screws from corrosion. But over a period of time, this passivated layer in the 304 Stainless Steel Self Tapping Screws gets depleted and the metal threads are in contact with each other causing friction, which in turn causes galling. Galling occurs in stainless steel fasteners during the tightening and loosening movements of the fasteners against another threaded fastener.
In order to prevent galling these 304 Series Ultra Coated Stainless Steel Screws are coated with a thin film of zinc. When the SS 304 Self Drilling Screw is coated with zinc, which acts as a barrier by providing protection against corrosion & galling in addition to imparting good toughness to the 304 Stainless Steel Self-Drilling Screws.
Another method to prevent galling is by using anti seize lubricants on Type 304 Stainless Steel Screws. Besides making installation of the SS 304 Grade Screws, anti-seize also enhances the corrosion resistance, thereby increasing the work life of the SS 304 Self Tapping Screw.
