Grade 321 is an austenitic chromium nickel alloyed stainless steel. Although it is similar to grade 304 stainless steel, the main difference between these two grades is that 321 SS Bar  contains Titanium. Titanium is highly recommended for those parts fabricated for instance the 321 stainless steel flat bar which is fabricated by welding and it cannot subsequently be annealed.

The addition of titanium in the alloy of the 321 stainless steel rod not only reduces but also prevents the formation of carbide precipitation that can happen during welding at a temperature range of 800 °F - 1500 °F . Titanium also improves the elevated temperature properties of the alloy.

Like grade 304, the sus321 bar is a stabilized stainless steel grade. 321 stainless steel welding rod offers excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion. The stainless steel 321 cold drawn bar also possesses good creep and high tensile strength. UNS S32100 Forged Bar is tends to resist the formation of scales and maintains phase stability when exposed to aqueous medium. The alloy also is resistance to subsequent aqueous corrosion.

Due to these improved mechanical as well as high corrosion resistance properties, the 321 ss round bar is often visible in applications in many equipment’s like exhaust stacks, Aircraft collector rings, carburetor air intensifier tubes, tubing, fasteners,  flexible couplings, jet engine parts, exhaust manifolds, mufflers, pressure vessels, flexible metal hose and bellows.

321 Stainless Steel Round Bar Suppliers often recommend this alloy to be use in applications where the temperatures can rise up to 900 °C, without the loss of strength.Grade 321H, a modification of the 321 stainless steel contains a higher carbon content. Hence, the 321 spring steel bar suppliers recommend this grade to buyers who require their equipment’s to withstand high temperature, without the mechanical properties getting affected.

A limitation of the Stainless Steel 321 Hollow Bar is that titanium does not transfer well across a high temperature arc. Therefore, the AISI 321 Square Bar  is not recommended as a welding consumable. In cases like these grade 347 is preferred, where the added niobium performs a similar carbide stabilisation task, but the metal can be transferred across a welding arc.

Like other austenitic grades, Stainless Steel 321 Threaded Bar has excellent forming and welding characteristics. The Ss 321 Square Bar is readily roll formed and have outstanding welding characteristics. Post weld annealing treatment is not required for this alloy. Another feature of the Ss 321 Hex Bar  is its excellent toughness, even in cryogenic temperature environments. As, the SS 321H Rod Supplier note, this particular grade of stainless steel does not polish well, which is why it is not recommended to be used for decorative applications.
