Hastelloy C276, also known as Alloy C276 or UNS N10276 is an austenitic grade alloy. This alloy chemically consists of elements like nickel, molybdenum & chromium as its primary alloying material along with a small addition of tungsten. Hastelloy c276 welding rod is considered to be one of the premier corrosion resistant materials available for process industries in the market.

One of the benefits of using the Hastelloy c276 rod is its excellent resistance to corrosion in both oxidizing as well as reducing environments. The high contents of both the elements, molybdenum and chromium along with the combination of the added tungsten, in the alloy is known to make the 2.4819 Alloy C 276 highly resistant to chlorine related stress corrosion cracking. These elements in the alloy also aid the ASTM B574 UNS N10276 in its resistance to general corrosion like pitting & crevice corrosion.

The Hastelloy C276 Bar Stock can be used in an environment that contains oxidative chemicals at temperatures up to 1900°F or 1038°C. Since the content of chromium in the Hastelloy C276 Round Bar  is low, it isn’t able to function or provide good resistance un the presence of oxidative media containing environments such as hot, concentrated nitric acid.The low carbon content prevents carbide precipitation in the ASTM B574 N10276 which ensures that the alloy can be utilized in the as-welded condition.

Although the Alloy C276 Round Bar cannot be hardened by heat treatment, it can be hardened by cold working. Hastelloy C276 Hex Bar has a higher work hardening rate as compared to the conventional austenitic stainless steels which needs to be taken into consideration. The Hastelloy C276 Flat Bar can be easily welded and processed by using standard shop fabrication techniques as used for conventional austenitic stainless steels as well as nickel based alloys.

The Hastelloy C276 Bar also performs well in marine environments, especially when under crevice conditions other frequently used alloys like stainless steel, Alloy 400 and Alloy 625 fail.The ASTM B574 N10276 is used extensively in sour wells for the recovery and processing of sour natural gas which contains hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide and chlorides. The chemistry of Hastelloy C276 makes it resistant to sulphur related stress cracking that can occur in sour environments at high temperatures in deep wells. Carbon and alloy steels cannot withstand this corrosive environment in deep wells as they tend to fail by falling a prey to sulfide stress cracking or stress corrosion cracking.
