Hastelloy C22, also referred to as alloy C22, is a versatile austenitic grade alloy. The high chromium content in the UNS N06022 Bolt provides good resistance when exposed to oxidizing media. For instance, when in environments that have oxidizing aqueous media like wet chlorine or in mixtures that contain nitric acid or oxidizing acids with chlorine ions, the ASTM B574 UNS N06022 have excellent corrosion resistance properties. Apart from these oxidising agents, the Hastelloy C22 Nuts are also resistant to seawater, brine and both organic as well as inorganic acids. Therefore the fasteners manufactured from Hastelloy 22 can be used in marine or seawater based applications.
The addition of molybdenum and tungsten content in the Alloy C22 Fasteners is known to impart good resistance to these fasteners in reducing media.By itself nickel is known to have good corrosion resistance properties, but when added to these Hastelloy C22 Screws it offers optimum resistance against corrosion in environments where reducing and oxidizing conditions are encountered in process streams. This property of Hastelloy is beneficial in multi-purpose plants where mixed conditions occur frequently.
The nickel content in the Hastelloy C22 Bolts is responsible for resisting the formation of grain-boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone. Hence, Hastelloy fasteners are well suited for applications involving chemical processes in the as-welded condition.Another feature of the Hastelloy 22 includes its excellent weldability and good ductility. The good ductility of Hastelloy 22 is the reason why it can be shaped into so many fasteners like bolts, screws, nuts etc.
Although the Alloy C-22 fasteners are well suited for use at elevated temperatures, care must be taken that these fasteners not be included in services where the temperature can go above 1250° F due to the formation of detrimental phases which can occur post this temperature mark.
