These regulations prescribe the need or requirement for “Structural Bolt sets” that can be used for steel constructions. The EN 15048-1 fastener (nuts and bolts) are non-tensioned screws designed to be used steel structures. Often these structural bolts en 15048 are used in hall constructions.
The EN 15048 standard contains regulations concerning products which are to be used for the calculation, design as well as manufacture of non-preloaded bolt connections for these steel structures. The structural bolts en 15048 regulations are divided into two parts - Part 1 sets out tp define the general requirements of the bolts and part 2 defines the suitability test. Manufactures generally need to guarantee that all of the structural bolts in this range are able to meet these requirements.
This means that: Nuts and en 15048 bolt must be packed and supplied in the original and unopened box.Homogeneous bolt and nut production, which means both the nuts as well as bolts in a single connection must originate from one and the same manufacturer.Sets of the fasteners (both bolts as well as their corresponding nuts) must be supplied or delivered in the original and unopened package from the factory. This also implies that only full packages in a weather proof pack with batch details may be delivered to the buyer to ensure traceability.
Surface treatments may only be applied on the nuts and bolts under the manufacturer's supervision. The Standard shall be labelled with CE marking, Product designation (ISO standard for bolts ISO 4014 or 4017 and nuts ISO 4032), Lot number, “SB” marking, Property class marking, Dimension, Identification number of the certified authority and manufacturer. This standard labelling norm generally applies to fasteners whose diameter ranges between M 12 to M 36.
The nuts and en 15048 bolt marking consists of - Property class marking, Identification mark of the manufacturer of the assembly and Special marking “SB” or Structural Bolting.
In order to produce and supply the en 15048 bolt a manufacturer must meet certain requirements. For instance, the surface treatment on the fasteners should be made only under the control, supervision and responsibility of the manufacturer.
The manufacturer should have a certified production control system, also referred to as the CE conformity certificate.
Additionally, the manufacturer must be able to draw up a performance statement or review of his product’s performance. This review of the product’s performance is also known as the DoP or Declaration of Performance. Further, a point to be noted is that without the CE marking, the performance statement remains invalid.
